Mo'Nique won Best Supporting Actress for her role as an abusive mom in 'Precious.' She was highly favored in the category and beat Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Penelope Cruz, as she did at the Golden Globes. Last night Mo'Nique became the 5th African American woman to take home an Academy Award. The other black women to win supporting actress Academy Awards were Jennifer Hudson for "Dreamgirls" (2006) , Whoopi Goldberg for "Ghost" (1990) and Hattie McDaniel for "Gone With the Wind" (1939). Halle Berry is the only Black woman to win the best actress honor for "Monster's Ball" (2001). Wonderful Women!!!
What about Mrs. Mo'Nique's speech! Excellent and what an inspiration!
Check it out and let me know what you think.
